There will always be fish in the sea

Every night I climb in bed, turn on the news, and watch another story about how bad the economy is: The stock market is down, unemployment is up, bank capital is down, government money chasing bad debt is up; it’s a vicious cycle and every night the news never changes. The top news of the day in the first ten minutes, then the weather, more news, the sports, and every night they show tomorrow’s Fish and Game Report.

first impressions count

When you receive a call from a recruiter, be nice – listen.  There are some obvious reasons, however there are many more reasons you may not have considered.  As an Executive Recruiter I have ended a phone conversation countless times and thought “I know he/she didn’t write my number down, what a mistake…”  As recruiters when we call possible candidates we reach two types of people: either happily employed individuals or unhappily employed individuals.  Of these two we receive two different responses: conversation leading to a referral/possible interest/email address exchange for future opportunities OR abrupt disinterest and a quick hang up with no chance of further follow-up.

Reinventing Oneself

There are many downsides resulting from our current economy. People are out of work, many homes are in foreclosure, and a great deal of businesses have either failed or are struggling. For many of us, fortunate to be working, our job descriptions have been somewhat altered. This has allowed each of us to look in the mirror and to make adjustments due to current economic conditions.
